I Gorillaz rendono disponibile il singolo con Robert Smith e annunciano la raccolta Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez, che include collaborazioni con St.Vincent, Elton John e Beck.

I Gorillaz, il nuovo brano con Robert Smith, e la raccolta di Song Machine

Per tutto il 2020, i Gorillaz hanno realizzato e condiviso la serie audiovisiva Song Machine, pubblicando cinque affascinanti singoli con grandi nomi dei collaboratori. Ora i rocker virtuali hanno rivelato che il progetto continuerà con  la Stagione 1 – Strange Timez, una raccolta di 11 nuovi brani in uscita il 23 ottobre  (17 nell’edizione deluxe) che mostrano artisti emergenti insieme a leggendari veterani. Nell’ultimo brano pubblicato Robert Smith, il frontman dei Cure è presente – come annunciato ieri – nella title track Strange Timez.

L’ultimo album dei Gorillaz, The Now Now , è uscito nel 2018. Ma  Song Machine  non è proprio un seguito, perché la prima stagione – Strange Timez  non è esattamente un album. Piuttosto, come ha detto ilbatterista Russell Hobbs , è “un modo completamente nuovo di fare quello che facciamo”. Ciò comporta una forte dose di collaborazione – 15 artisti non Gorillaz nella versione a 11 canzoni e 24 nell’edizione deluxe a 17 tracce – oltre a video musicali che piegano la realtà.

Le canzoni e le immagini sono state entrambe registrate principalmente ai Kong Studios e spesso la band dei cartoni animati frequenta artisti in carne e ossa. Come suggerisce il nome della prima stagione , i Gorillaz hanno in programma di continuare a estrarre questa vena in futuro.
