I Meat Puppets hanno annunciato una serie di ristampe di loro album storici. Il progetto verrà messo in atto dall’etichetta Megaforce Records che ristamperà il materiale prodotto da SST Records che va dal 1981 al 1989. Contestualmente, è stato anche annunciato un nuovo album dal vivo intitolato Camp Songs – registrato negli anni ’90.
La prima ondata della campagna di ristampa include il rumoroso EP di debutto del 1981 di Meat Puppets In a Car insieme all’offerta più melodica di Up on the Sun del 1985, ognuno dei quali arriva il 6 ottobre.
Una ristampa del loro seminale album del 1984 Meat Puppets II – con i noti numeri “Lake of Fire” e “Plateau” – dovrebbe arrivare a febbraio, con i restanti tre LP SST (Mirage, Huevos e Monsters) che verranno resi successivamente disponibili.
Kurt Kirkwood ha dichiarato:
È stato un periodo magico. Potevi fare un disco senza pensare a quanto sarebbe costato. Nessun problema di tempistiche né di soldi. Niente di tutto questo era richiesto. Nemmeno la produzione. Andavi e suonavi. Proprio come avresti fatto un live. In seguito abbiamo imparato a destreggiarci con la produzione, è successo a partire da Up on the Sun, anche se quel disco è venuto fuori in tre giorni. All’epoca non ci ponevamo il problema se avremmo venduto o meno, a comprare i nostri dischi ci pensavano i fan
