In una serata funestata dalla tragica notizia della morte di Kobe Bryant, di sua figlia Gianna, e di altri passeggeri del volo che si è schiantato a Calabasas in California, si è svolta la 62esima edizione dei Grammy Awards. La serata si è aperta con le parole del CEO dei Grammy Harvey Mason: “Come molti di voi sanno, abbiamo perso Kobe Bryant in un tragico incidente in elicottero. Poiché questa è casa sua, vi chiedo di unirvi a me in un minuto di silenzio”.
La serata, ha visto in Billie Eilish regina e protagonista della serata con ben cinque primi vinti di cui ben quattro nell categorie più importanti: Album dell’anno, Brano Singolo, Record dell’Anno, Artista Emergente, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album. Ai premi menzionati va aggiunto anche il premio vinto dal fratello Finneas che si accaparra il premio di Produttore dell’Anno.
Bene anche Lizzo che conquista il Best Solo Pop Performance (Truth Hurts), il Best Traditional R&B Performance (Jerome) e il Best Urban Contemporary Album. Grande soddisfazione per i Chemical Brothers, che, grazie al loro ultimo No Geography, portano a casa due statuette nella categoria Best Dance / Electronic Album e nella categoria Best Dance Recording. Analizzando sonorità squisitamente rock, bene i Tool con il Best Metal Performance e i Vampire Weekend con il Best Alternative Music Album.
Soddisfazione per Anderson .Paak che conquista il Best R&B Album e Tyler The Creator che si accaparra la categoria rap.
